The Ontario approach

Chimneys & Leadwork, done the way it should be in Whaleys Corners.

Chimneys are the hardest-weathered single element of any Ontario home. Four sides fully exposed, a flue penetration through the roof, a crown taking the full force of 100+ freeze-thaw cycles a year. Even good original masonry usually needs some work by year 40.

Our chimney service covers repointing, partial or full rebuild from the roof line up, new cast-in-place crowns with proper overhang and drip edge (not a smear of mortar), stainless-steel flexible liners for gas, oil and wood appliances to WETT standards, and stainless rain caps with bird guards.

Lead flashing at the roof-to-chimney junction is where the money is spent well. Code 4 or Code 5 sheet lead, properly stepped and counter-flashed, will seal a chimney junction for 80+ years. Aluminium flashing, for comparison, lasts 15 to 20 before corroding. The lead costs more upfront and far less over the building's life.

Why Safeway Contracts Ltd for this

What makes our chimneys & leadwork work last.

Proper lead flashing

Code 4 / Code 5 sheet lead, stepped and counter-flashed. 80+ year lifespan.

Cast-in-place crowns

Concrete crowns with overhang and drip edge. Not a mortar smear that cracks in year 5.

Stainless liners, WETT-certified

Insulated flexible stainless liners for gas, oil and wood appliances. Full WETT sign-off.

Full rebuild capability

From the roof line up, matching brick and mortar to the original. Heritage-appropriate work.

Rain caps and bird guards

How do I know if my chimney needs work?
Look for white staining (efflorescence) on the brick, cracks in the crown, missing mortar at joints, or water stains on the ceiling around the chimney breast.
Why use lead flashing instead of aluminium?
Lead lasts 80 to 100 years. Aluminium flashing lasts 15 to 20 before corroding at the roof junction.
Do you install liners?
Yes. We install insulated stainless-steel flexible liners for gas, oil and wood appliances, to WETT standards.
Do you build chimneys from scratch?
Yes. New-build chimneys for wood-burning stoves, fireplaces or high-efficiency gas appliances.
Will my chimney draft properly after repairs?
Yes, we test draft on every wood or gas appliance repair with a manometer to confirm proper flow after any repointing or liner work.
Do you build new chimneys from scratch?
Yes. We design and build new chimneys for wood stoves, fireplaces and high-efficiency gas appliances. Structural design, flue liner selection, rain cap and WETT-certified sign-off are all included.
What is involved in a chimney inspection?
Level 1 inspection (visual from the ground and roof) is included in our free estimate. Level 2 (camera inspection inside the flue) is available for $350 and is required after chimney fires or before buying/selling a home with a wood appliance.
