The Ontario approach

Steps & Stoops, done the way it should be in Brampton.

Front steps in Ontario take more abuse than almost any other part of the building. Winter salt, freeze-thaw heave, heavy foot traffic, shovelling impact. Steps built without proper footings start heaving in winter 3 and are unsafe by winter 10.

Every new step build from us starts with a frost-protected footing 1.2 metres below grade, a steel reinforcement grid in the pour, and a core of structural concrete. The visible surface, whether natural granite, porcelain tile, exposed-aggregate or brick cladding, sits on top of an engineered core that will not move.

We also re-clad existing structurally-sound steps, rebuild crumbling stoops from the footing up, and add or replace handrails to Ontario Building Code. Heritage porches, wrap-around verandas and accessibility ramps all within scope.

Can you just re-clad my existing steps?
Sometimes, if the underlying concrete is structurally sound. If it's crumbling or shifting, re-cladding over it just hides the problem.
Do I need a permit?
In most Ontario municipalities, front-entrance steps on existing footings do not require a permit. New steps over 600mm high or with new footings may.
How long do the steps take?
A typical front stoop demo and rebuild takes 3 to 5 working days, with curing time between pour and cladding.
What cladding material lasts longest in Ontario winters?
Natural granite and porcelain pavers are virtually bulletproof, 50+ years with no maintenance.
Can you add or replace handrails?
Yes. We install wrought iron, aluminium or stainless steel handrails to Ontario Building Code.
Can you match my existing house front?
Yes. We match brick, stone and aggregate finishes to the existing facade. Porcelain tile in particular comes in hundreds of colours and finishes including stone-look and wood-look.
Do you handle porch rebuilds with wooden decking?
Yes. Composite decking (Trex, TimberTech) over a concrete or steel substructure is a popular choice for porches, and avoids the rot problem of traditional wooden porches. Cedar is also available for classic look.
